Green Thumb

We had a pretty decent weekend as far as the weather went, and after a stop at the hardware store on Saturday I decided to try to get some yard work done. Most of the late morning and afternoon were spent pruning trees and shrubs, digging out stumps, and raking. I paid for it Sunday, as I was quite sore and had given myself a painful blister. I still have a bit of soreness today, as a matter of fact. I wish I had been able to get more done, but am satisfied with the progress thus far.

Having the proper tools for the work was very useful. Recent acquisitions include a pole pruner, lopping shears, shrub rake, mattock, garden spade, and pitch fork. We'll also need a wheelbarrow or cart of some sort soon, though I'm not sure where we're going to store it right now.

I'd like to start a compost heap somewhere, but I'm not sure where to locate it right now. It certainly would come in handy for the garden work I hope to accomplish this spring.

I'm in a struggle about where to put the compost heap as well. It needs to be close, but not too close...but not somewhere I will want to put something in the future either.

Thank you for making the little change. The outrageous thing is that Prome found me through you like the same day I posted that. ...so thank you for having it up there too. *giggle*

I don't have a whole lot of options with having a fairly standard-sized city lot, so I have a pretty good idea as to where to put it. What I'm mostly undecided on is whether I should buy one of those composters, build my own bin, or just make a big heap.

Yeah, my evil American consumer side says, "buy one of those fancy spinner ones," my practical side says, "build one yourself, don't spend 100 bucks on a piece of plastic," and my lazy side says, "just keep piling crap at the property line." I'm leaning towards the practical one.

I'd like to set sometime up near the toolshed. I'm kind of leaning toward just building one using some cheap lumber and either chicken wire or rabbit wire. The town I live in is going to be selling some soon for $39 though, but I'm concerned they may not be big enough.
